Light a candle to the past

I don’t see hatred in their eyes

Despite their desperate inward cries

For tortured family and friends

Those constant tears that never end.

Our visions now of desperation

Ghettos born of segregation

Honour in their misery

A Holocaust for all to see.

Now that many years have passed

Here am I still stood aghast

At racial hatred in our midst

Our inability to co exist.

Time has come to take a stand

Reach out with a loving hand

Open up our eyes to see

That strength is gained from unity.

Let kindness be your legacy

I see your grey eyes, drifting

far away shadows, shifting

Into a darkness no one knows

Behind that curtain nothing shows.

In a play of silent ghosts

Your absent smile reflects the most

Staring out into the distance

Not knowing showing no resistance.

Let me believe that you can hear

When I whisper in your ear

Your love is there for all to see

Let Kindness be your legacy.

Let your spirit cry

You know it’s all right to cry

In that moment heave a sigh

A memory that tugs at strings

To your heart a loved one sings.

A tear that shows you really care

For someone who’s no longer there

Close your eyes see their face

With you in your inner space.

They are with us in many ways

Helped us through our trying days

Let their spirits comfort, share

For in your life they’ll always care.

Howth promenade:

How sweet it is to sit a while

Watching people pass by, smile

Couples pushing buggies, Prams

Embrace the air – sweet romance.

Pigeons cooing seagulls call

Scatter as they feel footfall

Swooping on discarded chips

Cast out by tourists from cruise ships.

Musicians on the promenade

Singing songs sweet serenade

Swaying yachts, onshore breeze

Stay awhile take your ease.

Love and Understanding :

Life’s too short for bigotry

Eyes closed so one cannot see

Beauty in this world surround

Differences that can be found.

Like colours in a rainbow bright

That otherness shines a light

Awakes a glory deep within

Bursts that prejudice with a pin.

Nature, colour, sex, creed

Let us all now take the lead

Embrace, encourage non believers

Rid this word of love deceivers.

A Guardian Angel by my side :

Through the year friends have past

There were times shadow’s cast

Moments then of deep despair

By your bedside, silent prayer.

In my heart this I know

That because you loved me so

Life in time will heal the scars

Your light will shine in shooting stars.

Constantly an inspiration

You are my daily stimulation

Through my sadness softly guide

A guardian angel by my side.

All that tension bottled up.

That party over Christmas time

Joviality jingles rhyme

Laughter at the dinner table

Families, that friendship stable.

As the evening enters night

It’s then that tensions come to light

True colours quickly are revealed

New Years relations quickly sealed.

Oh that it should not be so

That our lives could be as white as snow

Where we could live in harmony

CoExist in peace, eternally.

That Gentle touch

Happy new year

Light a light on loneliness

Endless hours of emptiness

Footholds into friendship find

Commit yourself to being kind.

Sounds so simple, selflessness

Features we should all possess

Rid this world of human strife

Love lends itself to longer life.

In this era of wanton waste

Tolerance is being displaced

It only takes a gentle touch

To me it doesn’t seem too much.
