A poetic licence to experiment

( to Janet F )
A stranger passes
(To Janet F. )
At times it’s difficult
to trace a heart behind a face
a beauty that’s within
Just layers beneath the skin.
A person you might meet
a stranger she will greet
a kindness just to show
to a face she does not know.
Upon those lips a smile
that glistens so with style
a helping hand extends
as if we were dear friends.
Oh that we all be such
So much more a common touch
Instead of crying of your woes
be kind to anyone who goes.

A special dream of love tonight
wake up feeling warm, bright
all your troubles washed away
keeping negative thoughts at bay
energised, breathing in
nightmares thrown into a bin
eagerly see what could be
days filled with positivity.
Turning to a brand new page
only laughter to engage.
Altogether happy place.
Nagging thoughts all locked away
eager to begin the day
walk away from those who judge.
Drift into a happy state
allow yourself to drop that weight
with the help of those around
new horizons will be found.

Poetry day Ireland : theme. There will be time.
There will be time enough to visit
beaches, forests, mountains climb
perhaps notice all the benefits
of nature’s private time.
soul searching in your solitude
exercising that grey matter
speaking on the internet
some virtual pitter patter.
Pristinely painted premises
polished glasses, empty wine
weight watchers on the sideline
many months of quarantine.
In a world of many changes
remembering lessons learned
be faithful to your conscience
showing others more concern.

A blackbird with her golden beak
into the earth a worm did seek
flying back onto her nest
a morsel to her young digest.
A brood of hungry chicks to feed
fighting for their prey
little beaks wide open
to live another day.
For all the joys of nature
It’s simple, sweetest sound blackbirds in the morning
birdsong all around.
