Hearing voices in the dust

Hearing voices in the dust

Today like any other day
Children laughing-joyful-play
Siren sounds thoughts perplexed
Wondering what will happen next.

Flashing lights-siren’s sound
Screaming-sobbing underground
Burning-melting-acrid smell
Am I dreaming-gone to hell.

Opening my eyes I find
Dreadful darkness in my mind
Innocence shattered-so unjust
Hearing voices in the dust.

The longer we do nothing

The longer we do nothing:

Children within Europe
Murdered in their beds
Bombs rein down on innocents
Lives now torn to shreds.

Leaders fearing outright war
Sanction a dictator
While he without a conscience
Marches on our lands.

How he must be laughing
At our stuttering indecision
Applauding all our weaknesses
With sneering, scowl, derision.

He marches with impunity
From so called powerful nations
people throwing petrol bombs
From homemade battle stations.

Every time we hesitate
We elevate his power
He now feels invincible
In his soviet ivory tower.

It’s innocents who suffer

Its the innocent who suffer

Children born in bunkers deep
Fear preventing them from sleep
Lives once with hope fulfilled
Aspirations lifestyle build.

Minds mounting murderous deeds
Onto their ego evil feeds
A rat into a corner finds
A place in its disfigured mind.

Can we now stand idly by
Watch that terror, hear their cry
Or will we stand as family
Prevent this worlds calamity.

Valentine

Valentine

Beauty lies within her face
In her heart a special space
Rays of kindness in her embrace
Friendship finds a calming place.

Patience in those sparkling eyes
Deeds of thoughtfulness surprise Carried out without a fuss
Understanding silence a plus.

Ability to cope in situations
Unwind with ease those complications
How lucky was I in life to find
A perfect partner-a caring mind.

Morning

Morning

Stay in bed the raindrops said
As I woke up from a dream
Wind’s whistling-washed willows
Keep me in my bed.

Silence suddenly-serene
A canopy of blue
Spring surprises suddenly
From a window new life-green.

Raucous Rooks invade my space
On tree tops perilously perched
While traffic in the distance
Sounds somewhat out of place.

Teachers

Teachers

School bell rings-for whom it tolls
Names called-ancient scrolls
Desktops etched-graffiti art
Nervous wait-beating heart.

Teachers-commanding presence
Education’s basic essence
Sit stare somber silence
Looking for some guidance.

Nearby echoes laughter-screams
Eager faces-future dreams
Uniforms spick-span
Enjoy it while you can.

Monday morning

Monday morning

Mention Monday morning
Mindful weather warning
Alarm bells loudly ringing
Waking from my sleep.

Winter webs on window glass
Crystals crushing frosted grass
Sweetest sound songbird sings
Snowdrops open pearl white wings.

Raucous rooks rise restlessly
Floating on the breeze
While I stretch-take a breath
Into a new day ease.

A moment’s reflection on Holocaust Memorial Day

Light a candle to the past

I don’t see hatred in their eyes
Despite their desperate inward cries
For tortured family and friends
Those constant tears that never end.

Our visions now of desperation
Ghettos born of segregation
Honour in their misery
A Holocaust for all to see.

Now that many years have passed
Here am I still stood aghast
At racial hatred in our midst
Our inability to co exist.

Time has come to take a stand
Reach out with a loving hand
Open up our eyes to see
That strength is gained from unity.
