When sanity comes into range.

We listened to our children’s call
Now rustic autumn leaves can fall
Upon a green and mossy floor
Let nature open up her door.

Bogs bedecked, blooming blazing
Meadows green, cattle grazing
Teeming oceans, cleaner air
A testament to those who care.

Bees now busy pollinating
Colours once more dominating
See how quickly life can change
When sanity comes into range.

We’ve blocked the sun and choked the flower.

Silence now no birdsong tweet
Concrete pylons in the street
Conifers that once stood tall
Nesting chicks no longer call.
Plastic populates the planet
Choking cormorant and gannet
Smoking chimneys, acid rain
Deserts populate the plain.
Icebergs melting tumble down
Rising waters islands drown
Blinded by our greed for power
We’ve blocked the sun and choked the flower.

Time to unwind :

We clutter our lives with nonsense
So much so it makes no sense
Things to do, places to go
Will we make it yes or no.

Take a moment there’s not a minute
Nervous tension stretched to the limit
Running here chasing there
No time to think, stop, care.

Suddenly time stands still
More medication another pill
Too late to stall, relax, slow down
Don’t leave this world with a frown.

For only you can change that plan
Fill that space the best you can
Only then you’ll surely find
And have more time just to unwind.

Create memories you won’t regret:

I remember kneeling at the chair
Reciting rosaries deep in prayer
Fish on Friday, communion fast.
Memories from my distant past.

Playing marbles, climbing trees
Falling cutting scraping knees
Macaroons or penny bars
Spinning tops and dinky cars.

Porridge breakfast at the table
Off to school sick or able
Duffle coat and shiny shoes
A tummy pain – that’s no excuse.

Happiness a lasting thought
In hand me downs not shop bought Life was full of bumps and hollows
As clouds moved over sunshine followed.

We never know what lies ahead
When we awake step out of bed
So make the best of what you get
Create memories you won’t regret.

Evil crept into their midst.

As they worshipped, partied, sang
As the bells of Easter rang
As children laughed, lovers kissed
Evil crept into their Midst.

Condemnation from on high
Politicians, church outcry
Ignored by those who perpetrate
Fueled by ideology, ignorance, hate.

Is there a way to treat this snake
Their poison not our spirit break
Atrocities we must prevent
Rid our world of this torment.

Just Branches on this Planet’s Tree.

Are you there Lord, can you see me
You rose up just to free me
I call your name in silent prayer
With you my inner thoughts I share.

I sit and wait maybe in vain
For you to rise and roam again
A world so full of sadness, death
Where you on lakeshores Apostles met.

Or do I see this the wrong way around
Should I listen to the echo sound
Of Bible, Gospel, Koran, Torah
Combined radiate a loving aura.

Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Jew
To mention only just a few
Can we all for once agree
That we’re just branches on this planet’s tree.

On the border of insanity

Looked on in horror at the sad news from Derry
An innocent victim whose loved ones will bury
A new generation of growing unrest
Scenes that we’ve lived through, grown to detest
Can history not teach us that violence is futile
Let’s root out this evil put it on trial
For murder is murder no matter what banner
And cannot be justified by race, creed or manner.

Choose love over money

Look over your shoulder at mountains of cash
Exhausted at wondering where you could stash.
Worrying daily about being secure
A burden I certainly don’t have to endure.

I open my fridge. food there aplenty
Not too overdrawn on a statement they sent me.
My days are not filled with interest compound
But laughter and birdsong a more welcome sound.

Would I swap for that five bedroom villa in Spain
Swimming pool, Jaguar new private plane
Or live with a calmness, family, wife
My nights filled with slumber and a nice quiet life…….
